The Ford Transit is practically at this point the industry standard for a passenger van. But with 2024 right around the corner? Can we expect that standard to continue? There isn't much information that is officially released by Ford yet for the 2024 Ford Transit, but we can begin to speculate what next year’s model will entail by going off the current model.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- No significant information released for the U.S. but there have been some updates for Europe at Ford Pro.
- Expect the height of standard safety features like adaptive cruise control and lane keeping alerts.
- An upgraded infotainment system will be standard on the Transit.
ANY UPDATES ON THE ENGINE?
There haven’t been any official updates on Ford on if the powertrain for the 2024 Ford Transit will be upgraded in any way, so as of now we can expect similar engine options to choose from. The 2023 model has a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 available as a standard choice that generates 310 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. It has a 10-speed automatic engine as well and can tow up to 7,500 pounds. With no new updates, we can predict this entire drive train will carry over to 2024.
THE TRANSIT IN EUROPE: A SNEAK PEAK FOR THE TRANSIT IN THE STATES?
While we wait on the official word as to what the 2024 Ford Transit will look like when it makes its way across roads and highways in the United States, Ford across the sea in Europe has already done their part in unveiling what the Transit will look like on their side of the world. Some of these features, while not guaranteed to be the same when officially released in the U.S., may give us a sneak peek as to what we are to expect.
Ford Pro in Europe announced their 2024 Transit will have an upgraded drive train, while still not specifying engine specifics. The front wheel drive train in the European model will have the option of an 8-speed automatic transmission, with redesigned wheel hubs for quick brake changes. Standard 5G was announced for the European Transit, as well as pre-collision assist, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist and speed assist.
The new 5G system will include Ford Power Up which allows for over-the-air company software updates to reduce the downtime of each vehicle. New, Delivery Assist automated technology was also unveiled for the European Transit that recognizes repetitive tasks by drivers and on auto models, can shift the van into park, automatically turn off the engine, activate hazards and so much more. We can only hope that a few of these features will be naming their way over to the states.
BIG HOPES FOR THE 2024 FORD TRANSIT
With all that the 2023 Ford Transit offers this year, and all that has been revealed so far overseas, there are high hopes for what is to come when we learn more about our Transit. If it’s anything like what Ford has continued to develop with the Transits of the past, the 2024 Transit is going to focus on a massive increase in productivity unlike any year before it.
