Which Super Duty model is right for you, the 2022 Ford F-250 XLT, F-350 XLT, or F-450 XLT? Our comparison guide is here to help you tell the difference between these heavy-duty trucks.
Price
The price of each of these Super Duty XLT models varies according to which cabin (regular, extended, or crew), bed size, and options you select. The price also goes up according to weight rating. That’s because each Super Duty model can tow a bigger trailer.
- 2022 Ford F-250 XLT: $41,220
- 2022 Ford F-350 XLT: $42,745
- 2022 Ford F-450 XLT: $58,395
XLT Features
Although the F-250 XLT, F-350 XLT, and F-450 XLT have different tow ratings, they’re similarly equipped with comfort and tech features.
In the Super Duty trim lineup, the XLT is essentially the mid-grade model. It improves on the base XL with power door locks, power windows, cloth upholstery, and carpeted flooring.
The XLT also adds the Sync 3 infotainment system, which supplies quick and easy access to smartphone apps via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety aids include blind-spot monitoring and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking.
- 18-inch Sparkle Silver-painted cast aluminum wheels
- Chrome bumpers and grille
- Heated exterior mirrors
- Cloth upholstery
- Carpeted flooring
- Power windows and door locks
- Sync 3 with 8-inch touchscreen and optional navigation
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Dual USB ports
- Forward collision mitigation
- Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
Power & Performance
No matter which Super Duty model you select, the same three powertrains are available:
- Standard 6.2-liter gasoline V8 (385 horsepower, 430 pound-feet of torque) + six-speed automatic transmission
- Optional 7.3L gasoline V8 (430 hp, 475 lb-ft) + 10-speed automatic transmission
- Optional 6.7L turbocharged diesel V8 (475 hp, 1,050 lb-ft) + 10-speed automatic transmission
The standard gas-powered V8 engine may be enough to serve your specific towing and hauling needs. However, with the larger, 7.3-liter V8 engine, your Super Duty XLT truck will be better able to haul max payloads. The turbodiesel V8 is available to help you achieve max tow ratings.
Heavy-Duty Capabilities
Each Super Duty truck was specially designed to be able to tow more weight than the last. However, if you want to haul the biggest payloads, you should note that the F-350 is actually the most capable Super Duty truck. Because it’s available with a wider range of body styles than the F-450, it’s actually able to haul more weight in the truck bed.
You should also keep in mind that each Super Duty truck’s capabilities vary according to body style, powertrain, and equipment. For example, an F-250 with a crew cabin and the base engine can’t tow as much as an F-250 with a regular cabin and the turbodiesel V8. Before you choose the right Super Duty for you, you really need to know how much weight you’re going to tow and haul.
2022 Ford F-250:
- 20,000 lbs conventional towing
- 22,800 lbs gooseneck/fifth-wheel towing
- 4,260 lbs max payloads
2022 Ford F-350:
- 21,200 lbs conventional towing
- 35,700 lbs gooseneck towing
- 7,850 lbs max payloads
2022 Ford F-450
- 24,200 lbs conventional towing
- 37,000 lbs gooseneck towing
- 6,210 lbs max payloads
Choose Your Super Duty XLT
Choosing between the F-250 XLT, F-350 XLT, and F-450 XLT is really a decision about how much you want to tow and haul. We recommend not buying more heavy-duty truck than you need. That way, you won’t overspend on upfront costs and fuel.
